Brought to you by Cabalvision in full Spectre color. Translation brought to you by the Grey Wizards for the viewrs at home across the world. Spike Magazine presents the second match of round one playoff action on the road to the C.R.I.P.P.L.E.D. Cup. This is... Blood Bowl!
"In tonight's match up we will see the agility and swiftness of the Dark Elf team, Silver Streak versus the speed and ferocity of the Necromantic team, Holywood Knights. This should be an action packed match that could go down in the annals of Blood Bowl history, but who am I kidding it probably won't. We haven't seen a match of that caliber since 2473 when the Reikland Reavers faced off against the Orcland Raiders just before the Nuffle Amorical Blood Bowl League collapsed. Now here we are as Nuffle wants, enjoying Blood Bowl once again. I'm Arachno Phobia and with me is Bo Peepe. Bo..."
"Thanks Arachno, it's a beautiful day in San Diego Field where the Silver Streak will be enjoying home field advantage. Although by the looks of the fans pouring into the stadium, it looks as though this could be the Holywood Bowl Arena. As we look around the complex we can see excited fans in their exuberance purchasing items from the concessions. There is nothing like a cold beer and squigdog while attending a match. The first 1000 that arrived today all received spikey maces as match keepsakes. Oh and look Archno, the first three rows are covered in protective cloth to keep their clothes free of blood. Though in my experience, the cloth won't help unless it's treated with resin, but then again, why bother. The blood soaked clothing is another momento to remember the match by..."
"Here come the teams Bo. As they enter their dugouts, the captains make their way to the center of the pitch. Representing the Silver Streak is Eldnil and for the Holywood Knights, Jack Nicholson. Officiating tonights match is Torg Stonefist, the retired Blitzer from the Dwarf Giants. Let's head to the field cam."
The Dwarf pulls out a gold coin from his pocket. Showing both sides of it to the players he states, " Captains, the Image of Grim Ironjaw is heads and the image of the anvil is tails, Eldnil, call it in the air." He tosses the coin up. A naked goblin comes from the stands, rushing he lunges for the coin. Reaching out Torg grabs the stunty green fellow by the neck and holds him stationary.
"Tails." Eldnil states loudly. the coin comes down Anvil side up.
"It is tails. Knights, do you wish to kick or receive?"
"We will receive."
"Streak..." The goblin looks at the Dwarf.
"What?"
"Not you you git." Looking back up to Eldnil. "Streak, which end do you want to defend?"
Eldnil points behind him.
"Gentlemen, have a good match. Know this, I'll be watching..."
Both Jack and Eldnil head to their perspective sidelines with the odd feeling that he meant it.
Both teams set up in preperation for the kick off. Soon the ball soars through the heavens, or at least the stadium air, to land near Jack Nicholson on the 30 yard line, but the Dark Elves don't wait for the kick before charging the Knights. The Streak try to overwhelm the Knights right edge, but the hold up under the pressure with the heads up play of Woodie Harleson. The Knights retaliate pushing the Elves line back. Tyler Lautner blitzes Teltin, knocking him out. Jack attempts to picj up the ball, but it proves to be elusive. Coemher, the Dark Elf Blitzer, tries to burst around the Knights left edge, but trips over his own two feet.
Jack, seeing the Elf rush, snatches the ball and makes for the right sideline. As the Knights maneuver into position. Woodie Harleson crashes into Mortis, knocking him out. The Knights form a wall to protect their ball carrier. The Streaks react by forming several pickets to try to breach the Knights defenses.
Geoffrey Rush, the Golem Blocker tries to sprint in hitting Eldnil forcing him back to the sideline. The early arriving fans begin to slap their open hand with their spikey maces, unaware of the damage the spikes were doing to their hands thanks to the best that Bugman brews. A sideline cage forms around Jack as a Dark Elf defender hit Geoffrey Rush from behind. The Golem is slow to get up.
Noticing several of the Elves boxed up on the sideline, Taylor Lautner, the untrained Werewolf, blitzes the lead elf forcing the Elf behind him into the waiting hands of several Elf fans who protect him from the spikey maces and harm. The other elf dives to the turf preventing Taylor from pushing him out of bounds. The Knights continue to maneuver to better protect Jack, but somehow the Streak get close. Woodie Harleson knocks the offending Elf to the ground allowing Jack to pull back behind a pair of defending zombies. Woodie is hit and falls to the ground before the sideline, hearing the jeers from the Dark Elf fans that minutes earlier assisted Eldnil to his bench.
Jack makes a break for the far sideline, escaping the Dark Elf attack. The Knights rally and form a new wall to cover Jacks tracks. Woodie, standing up, realizes he is about to be spikey maced. He dives to the right, but remains on his feet, surprising himself and the Streak players around him. Taylor gets pancaked. Caemhor seeing the rookie Werewolf down kicks him. The whistle blows. Torg runs up flashing a red card at Caemhor. "I warned ye. Get...offf...my...pitch!" Jack scores.
The Streak, having just enough time to get one play off maneuver into position hoing to make something happen. The ball was kicked deep. The Elves grab it and make a break for paydirt. Lunching the pass for a reception, time runs out in the half before they can score.
"Wow, Arachno! What a first half. It had it all: blocks, blitzes, fouls, crowd surfs, and knock outs. I hope the second half lives up to the hype." Bo exclaims.
"That's right Bo. No injuries though. I bet they're coming. And what about Torg? I know he's tough, but can he stand up to the thousands of Dark Elf fans for ejecting that player? I'm sure he will have to go on the R.P.P., at least until next season."
Bo looks at Arachno, " What's the R.P.P.?"
He repies, "It's the Referee Protection Program. One of Peg Leg Pete's old teammates heads it up ow. You remember the Ogre Rodrigo?"
"I sure do Arachno. What's he up to these days. HA HA, just kidding. Oh look, the halftime show is about to start. It's the Ucla Undead Marching Band featuring the Zombie, Rob."
The glitz and the glam of halftime ends and the teams return to their benches. After a few wods from their coaches the teams head out onto the pitch, setting up in preparation of the kick off. The ball soars into the Dark Elf backfield hitting the turf and taking a couple of bounces before settling down. The Streak seys out in motion, but Eldril fumbles the ball as he moves in to pick it up. The Knights move in on the Streak as Jack puts pressure on the Runner.
The Streak line moves in and attack Geoffrey Rush. He is hit on all sides, but stands firm under the onslaught. The teams jockey for position, but the Elves are finding it difficult to keep the Knights at bay as they put pressure on ball carrier. Eldnil takes the ball up his right side trying to escape the Knights rushing attack. Geoffrey Rush injures Laith in the interchange.
Arachno and Bo look at each other and say in unison, "FINALLY!"
The Streak move in building a partial cage around Eldnil, but they don't have the numbers needed to proect him. The Ghoul, Bill Murray rushes in blizing Eldnil. As he is going down, Eldnil manages to flip the ball back to Teltin. In Elfy fashion, Ridlan breaks free and runs up the field down the let sideline trying to get out of reach in hopes of a long bomb coming his way. Teltin spots his teammates escape, but has no hope of breaking free himself. He lets the ball fly. Geoffrey Rush puts his hands up and deflects the pass straight into the air catching it as it comes down. The Knights knock the Elves out of the way for Geoffrey Rush, clearing the way for a touchdown. Moments later the big Golem and hero of the match crosses the goal line, scoring his first pick and score of his career. (the mvp ended up being a zombie, but it should have been Geoffrey Rush)
"Wow Bo, what en ending! It's always awesome when the biggest guy on the pitch is the hero of the match. It reminds me of my glory days. I remember back when I was a player..."
"That's a great story Arachno. I like it every time you tell it, but we should really let this be a night for the Knights."
That is the match Knights win 2-0
